I can tell you from personal experience that there is no better way to enrich your education or explore future career paths than by working with a faculty member who is actively engaged in research.

The Indiana University Cox Research Scholarship is awarded to Indiana high school students of exemplary achievement who are interested in working under the direction of a faculty mentor on research and scholarly activities. The scholarship, which has a total value of more than $60,000 over four years, provides funds for tuition, fees, books, and room and board, and also includes a research stipend. As many as 40 Research Scholars are selected each year.
The scholarship is renewable each year for a maximum of four years (excluding summers) or until the student receives his or her first bachelor's degree, whichever comes first. Research Scholars must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5. They are not expected to have prior research experience.

the freedom to explore
The Cox Research Scholars Program offers students a unique opportunity to explore their interests and work with IU faculty members. Beginning freshman year, each Research Scholar partners with a faculty mentor to develop a research project or creative endeavor that is tailored to his or her interests. The student is expected to work on the project for 8 to 10 hours per week during the academic year.
Students' projects are often related to their majors. Research Scholars may choose any major (or majors) offered at IU Bloomington; past Scholars have majored in accounting, biology, international studies, journalism, theatre and drama, and many other subjects. Research Scholars who have not decided on a major can enter the program as exploratory students.
